I normally stay away from direct shots across the bow of Administration policy, but sorry folks, just gotta do it. Feel free to set me straight here.
George Bush has a secret and I want to know what it is. We all do
On November 7, America went to the polls and sent a strong message of dissaproval on the War in Iraq by kicking the Republican Party out of power in the United States..After losing control of the House and the Senate and the balance of State Governors - in other words losing Republican control of everything except the White House, A wake-up call could not have been stronger.
Bush appeared to listen. He held a press conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who flew over from England to agree with him. At this press conference, "Stay the course" disappeared from the rhetoric and was replaced by the phrase "a new way forward".
December 3rd -I wrote that since Iraqi’s were now fighting each other, we should start a quiet exit and let them have at it..
December 6th - , The Iraq Study Report was released and said essentially the same thing. It cited the situation as "grave and deteriorating" and recommended seventy-nine specific steps that could be taken. The main recommendation was to immediately start reducing the number of troops in Iraq, to force the Iraqi government to start doing the job of managing Iraq’s internal problems.And Bush promised to listen, and take the Study report into account - but only after consulting with his Cabinet, the Joint Chiefs the new Secretary of Defense Baker. The decision could come as early as December 15th…20th…27th…the decision would come in early January.
Devcember 25th - Christmas Day - The number of America’s sons and daughters killed in Iraq became larger than the total number of Americans killed in the 9/11 attacks.
December 31st - New Year’s Eve The number of dead American serice men and women in Iraq hit 3,000.
OK, now it is early January and Bush has heard from everone involved. He appears to have made a decision and is leaking hints on a daily basis. Meanwhile, America waits. Here is what those he consulted have said;
Iraq Study Group - Immediately start reducing the number of troops
White House Staff and Cabinet including Secretary of State Condolezza Rice - Immediately start reducing the number of troops
Joints Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon - Immediately start reducing the number of troops
Field officers and American Generals in Iraq - Immediately start reducing the number of troops
So Bush is now saying that the best way forward is to increase the number of troops.
That is why I say he has a secret, something only he knows about this situation.. He must. Otherwise I would have to believe our President is insane.
