A Candle in the Wind

Well, the days are getting longer again. Pretty soon it will be tornado season. Then hurricane season. I thought of this because of a comment Dirty Ron (thanks) made. He writes:

"a tornado hit a trailer park in missouri, wiped out 200 trailers, insurance estimated the total damage at $ 427.00."

Dude, that is mean. Seriously though, tornados may be God’s way of telling people not to live in trailers. When you hear about a tornado touching down, doesn’t it always seem like it hits a trailer park? What are the chances of that? Only a tiny percentage of the Earth’s surface is covered in trailers, but tornados do seem to find them. So I did a Google search for the phrase "tornado touches down" and got 230,000 pages returned. Then I did a search for "tornado hits trailer" - and got 224,000 pages! If you use that rough guide as a statistic, tornados manage to hit trailers 97.3% of the time!

Clearly someone is sending a message.

So, when disaster strikes, what does FEMA do for the poor folks who’s homes have been destroyed ? FEMA gives them trailers of course! I guess it is the "lightning never strikes twice" mentality. Seems at FEMA intelligence never strikes even once. Or maybe they do it for job security (hehe).

Gone With The Wind

Speaking of which, federal auditors are due to release a report today showing where the $21 BILLION dollars is that FEMA handed out after Katrina. The best advice for taxpayers is; Don’t read the report, and stay away from the news for a while. Apparently at least a BILLION dollars was handed out in straight fraud, another BILLLION dollars was squandered in payments to companies that received no-bid contracts and then failed to do any work, and on and on. Wow.

Jim Gibbons

And speaking of squandering public funds, United States Congressman Jim Gibbons (Nev) missed the ENTIRE last session of Congress, but somehow found time to cash his paycheck. Jim makes $165,000
a year as a Congressman.

So what was he doing instead of his job? Well, he has been accused of assaulting a cocktail waitress in a parking garage after a night of heavy drinking on October 13th. According to the local DA, he will not be prosecuted for the alleged assault, which came just three weeks before election day. The waitress, Chrissy Mazzeo, alleges that not only did he assault her, but that his office and staff made threats and offered bribes to keep her quiet. The investigation supposedly continues, although the decision has been made not to prosecute. I am confused.

White Gibbon
(Does not hold political office)
Thailand - December 28, 2006 - Researches studying the White Gibbon have found for the first time that apes sing songs to communicate very specific information such as danger from a specific predator. Previously, it was thought that some ape-songs were related to mating rituals, but extending this singing communication to a wide range of activities is quite startling as it mimics some human behavior. For example, if one ape makes a song about the presence of a predatory animal, other apes nearby will pick up the song and repeat it. To me, it sounds a lot like Congress. The article made no mention of them studying the Jim Gibbons.
