Wow. I figured that guy would be GONE about a month ago in the American Idol competition.
I saw on the news that there are websites dedicated to making American Idol a failure. What they do is allow the surfer to pick the WORST possible candidate to win and vote for that person thousands of times by using a speed dialer script.
Well apparently that is what has happened AGAIN.
I mean…come on. Taylor Hicks?
The guy is NO entertainer. He’s just a stiff looking dork. And once the hoopla of American Idol is over…who is gonna buy his records?
The same people that bought Rueben Studdard and Fantasia’s records.
I keep hearing Taylor calling himself a “soul singer”. Maybe he thinks that a “soul singer” is John Belushi singing “Soul Man” from The Blues Brothers movie cause that’s the way he shouts…and that is not a soul singer.
I think Marvin Gaye would STRONGLY disagree with a stiff white boy shouting being considered a soul singer. I mean could you imagine Taylor Hicks being compared to Gaye, or The Temptations, or Smokey Robinson, or any of a thousand other REAL soul singers? Of course not. But that’s the level he has to compete on. And in my humble opinion…he’s not even on the same page as those guys. Hell, he ain’t even in the same library. Matter of fact he ain’t even a book…he’s more like a 3 page flyer.
A Soul Singer? I don’t think so. That’s why I have to wonder…who is his target audience gonna be? Who is gonna buy his records?
The kids?
No. He LOOKS old as hell, he looks dorky as hell, he isn’t “hot” in any sense of the word, and watching him do those stiff marching movements that he calls “dancing” tells me that the kids on the “street” won’t be emulating that anytime soon.
People in their 20’s?
Again, I say “no”. I just couldn’t imagine very many people in their crazy 20’s wanting to hear a double chinned, gray headed geek shouting a song.
People in their 30’s? Maybe his best shot. If he manages to sell 50,000 records that will be where the majority of his sales come from.
People my age?
Hell no! We grew up on great singers and great bands. We want to throw up when we hear that shit.
People in their 50’s and 60’s?
Again, hell no. You’re talking about children of the 1960’s. They grew up on Dylan, The Stones, The Beatles, Hendrix, The Doors…etc. You think they will take their money and go to a record store and buy the new Tyler Hicks CD?
I don’t believe the man has an audience.
And in the end that’s how American Idol will be judged. Did the winners really become “American Idols”?
Well, Kelly Clarkson did. She has legitimately forged a career and sold a lot of records and won a grammy. So did Carrie Underwood.
The rest of them?
Nothing.
And Taylor Hicks will quickly fall into obscurity as well. I can’t imagine who in the hell his target audience is gonna be. He sings and dances like a gray headed bad Elvis impersonator.
There are THOUSANDS of singers and entertainers in America who totally blow that stiff away. Not even close.
What’s amusing to me is that you hear on television what a great “entertainer” and “manic dancer” he is! Yeah, maybe in comparison to some of the other goofs on that show.
But a real frontman? A real singer? A real entertainer?
Wake up America!
I don’t know who fed people all those STUPID pills but Taylor Hicks is a fucking joke!
You want to see a real entertainer and singer? Watch Elvis’s comeback special. Watch footage of Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler. Take a look at Prince (who performed on the show last night as well).
Hell, even Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake are great entertainers and know how to put on a show.
Taylor Hicks?
Within a year he’ll be playing cards with Rueben Studdard in a trailer park.
They said that over 63 million votes were cast in the finale of the show. Yet, they don’t have 1/5 of that many people watching the show.
Hmmmm….how can that be? BECAUSE THOSE WEBSITES THAT ARE DEDICATED TO MAKING AMERICAN IDOL A FAILURE CONTROLLED THE VOTING AND CAUSED A JOKE TO WIN.
If I were his PR guy I would consider him to be an image nightmare.
I don’t see any way to market the guy…the majority of CD buyers are young.
The only way I see this guy making any money for anybody would be IF someone wrote him a song that is so great that everybody wants it. Then it could make some money as a downloaded single. And of course that money would mainly go to the songwriter.
I guess we’ll see what happens. There are a lot of people smarter than I am working on this problem as we speak. But even they couldn’t do it for Reuben Studdard. Can they do it for Taylor Hicks?
I don’t know. He’s kinda caught between a rock and a hard place. That goofy, clutzy, dork image is what brought him to the dance. But I don’t think he can sell records like that. BUT, if he tries to change his image then he will get a backlash from the public.
He’s doomed.
And the bad part is…there are THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of people far more talented than him. Hell, on the last cruise I was on I saw a Vegas style show each night with singers and dancers who were phenomenally talented. And speaking of Vegas, there are thousands of entertainers there who are just smoking hot.
Yet, this clown will get to do some things over the next year that I’ll never get to do. And all those talented musicians and entertainers out there will never get to do.
